Internet
Downloads To Create Album Descriptions - For LP Collectors
Although
there are Internet services that provide album descriptions of classical
CDs that download into cataloging programs, these services do not provide
pre-entered descriptions of LPs.
For LP collectors, this lack of automation limits the usability of cataloging
software programs as they force collectors to type an exhaustive amount
of information in order to describe their LPs. As a unique alternative,
Maestro Manager's pre-programmed
scrollable lists all but eliminate typing. Although these scrollable
lists empower an expeditious means to create album descriptions of both
CDs and LPs, Maestro's LP Archive Library provides an even faster
method to create descriptions of LPs.
LP
Archive Library - Pre-Entered Album Descriptions of LPs
The LP Archive Library is a repository of pre-entered descriptions
of LPs that users can add selectively into their Maestro Manager
cataloging software in the most expeditious manner–with a button click.
With the use of this optional enhancement to Maestro Manager, collectors
have access to pre-entered album descriptions of many wonderful LPs on
Angel, Capitol, Columbia, Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, Everest, London,
Lyrita, Mercury, Philips, RCA, Westminster, and those made by other vendors.

With the
LP Archive Library a simple click creates a complete description of
an album.
Pre-Entered
Descriptions Include Extras
These
pre-entered LP descriptions, typically, provide levels of detail missing
from the descriptions of CDs available from Internet services. Along with
the composers, composition titles, conductors, orchestras, and solo artist
details written on an album's cover, each pre-entered LP description may
include a musical category,
comments that pertain to that album such as preferred pressings, and indicate
whether a critic recommended that album and why. Like the details entered
using Maestro's scrollable lists to create album descriptions,
each detail within a pre-entered description, except for the comments,
becomes part of the searchable knowledgebase that empowers Maestro's
librarian-like ability to answer questions.
Recommendations
From Critics
Where
appropriate, pre-entered LP descriptions indicate whether a critic recommended
an album and why. As critics have areas of interest and expertise, many
of their recommendations pertain to a vertical category. London recordings
may indicate Mr. Robert Moon's
and Mr. Michael Gray's numerical
ratings for performance and sound. Descriptions of Mercury Living Presence
LPs may indicate whether Mr. Sid
Marks recommended an album and notes, if applicable, the album's numerical
ranking in his list of the top Living Presence recordings. Pre-entered
descriptions on RCA may indicate whether Mr.
Jonathan Valin and/or Mr. James
Mitchell recommended an album. Also detailed are the RCA LPs in Mr.
Marks' list of the top 52 Living Stereo albums, including their respective
numerical ranking. As an astute listener, Mr. Valin recommends that a
specific pressing of some albums sound better than other pressings. In
many instances, those recommendations are mentioned. Where appropriate,
relevant comments by these critics are quoted.
Other
critics, such as Mr. Ronald
Penndorf, Mr. Arthur Salvatore,
Mr. David Canfield, and
Mr. Harry Pearson, Founder and
Chariman of The Absolute Sound critique a diverse selection of
classical LPs. The LP Archive Library's pre-entered descriptions
may indicate critical recommendations by these critics and indicate albums
that are on or were on The Absolute Sound's Super Disc or Baker's
Dozen lists. Where appropriate, relevant comments by these critics are
quoted.
When
asking Maestro Manager questions about your album collection, albums
recommended by most of the above mentioned critics, including entries
on The Absolute Sound Super Disc lists, can used as part of your
question's criteria.
What
Users Say
"I just installed the Merc Archive. I have already started using
the RCA Archive, and it is wonderful. I would never have the patience
to enter all of that info myself. " (Note: Previously there were
several smaller individual libraries, whereas now there is one comprehensive
LP Archive Library.)
"Wow. I will compare the list of albums in the LP Archive Library
when I get home, but it appears to be so comprehensive, that if I have
any albums that are not on the list, they are probably not worth owning.
Seriously, at first blush, other than a handful of mono albums, creating
an accurate list of my records will require minimal typing. Outstanding
effort, and definitely worth the wait. Congratulations."
